Thriller Genre

The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight is a thriller because of the main characters, consisting of the hero: Batman; the 'damsel in distress': Rachel and the villian: The Joker. The plot tackles tragic flaws in heroes, good verses evil and the villain taking important characters hostage such as Harvey Dent and Rachel, and making Batman choose between them. However typically any hero would save the girl he loved but Batman chooses to save Harvey instead. The film is set in a typical metropolis setting, Gotham City, making it busy and full of police, backing up the theme of crime. The soundtrack in The Dark Knight is that of a typical thriller, with fast paced, loud music and to give the film intensity and pace. Other sound effects such as explosions are also very loud to emphasize the shock. The film is also very dark so scenes are rarely well lit, keeping characters in the dark, which symbolizes tragic flaws in everybody, such as Batman, who can't save everybody and Harvey Dent, who, after being saved lives "long enough to see" himself "become the bad guy". It also intensifies The Joker's unstable mind, assuming his mind is very dark. The dark scenes also help make the audience feel a sense of tension or fear. In one particular scene where the Joker is recruiting people to help him kill Batman, all of the characters but the Joker are seated while the Joker stands, talking to the creating a sense of authority or superiority.

Final Destination
Final Destination is set in a typical metropolis and involves lots of characters, specifically Alex, who has the premonition that the flight is going to crash. The film unwinds to reveal the enevitibility of death, until the end when only Alex survives, each character gets picked off one by one making the audience pressume there will be know characters left in the end. This fast paced fight for survival against fate makes it a typical Thriller, incoporating the damsel in distress and the hero with a 'tragic flaw'. Other things that make this film a thriller is the edgy, sudden music and the darkness of some of the scenes, this contrast with the brighter scenes which show the life of normal teenagers, helping the audience relate to the characters.

Jumper
The main characters in Jumper are typical of a Thriller, consisting of David, the hero; the sidekick, Griffin; the damsel in distress, Millie and the villain; Roland. Roland, a Paladin, trys to destroy David and Griffin because the are 'Jumpers' and takes Millie hostage to get to Griffin's lair and destroy them. This unbalance in David's life is typical of the Thriller genre. The film is also dark in the middle when David's life is turned upside down to portay his struggle. Also the places they jump to and from are cities, linking back to the typical metropolis setting. It is also very fast pace, when they are jumping from one place to another, it happens very quickly and everything suddenly transforms around them. This is the same with the sounds and music, it's fast paced and loud. In the end Roland gets killed along with Griffin and David finds out his mother is a Paladin, which is why she left David when he was a child. The car chase scene is also a thriller trait. The actors used, such as Hayden Christensen, Jamie Bell and Samuel L Jackson are regularly used in thriller films.
