Damn Nice Caff and Cows

Damn Nice Caff is an example of a classic documentary whereas Cows is more experimental, they differ in style and subject but mainly in editing, sound and the composition of the shots. For instance, the sounds in Damn Nice Caff are ambient sounds recorded in an actual cafe, which highlights the atmosphere and puts the audience and narrator in the scene, on the other hand, in Cows, the sounds of the cows breathing has been manipulated in order to create a sense of fear or wonder in the documentary. This also carries along the narrative of the documentaries, whereas the voiceover in Damn Nice Caff tells you what to think through narration, Cows encourages the audience to use their own imagination to create a narrative. The subject matter in Damn Nice Caff is nostalgic and typical of a classic documentary, on the other hand, Cows doesn't seem to have a very eccentric subject but explores it in a experimentalist way, for example the shots are taken from the floor and you can clearly see the film maker which is not the usual angle at which we look at cows, giving the audience a new and interesting perspective on the creatures. The sounds are also amplified, highlighting just how big and powerful cows actually are. Both documentaries can be seen below:
